AI-Powered Microlearning Videos for Youth Employability and Entrepreneurship

As a Learning Design Consultant at Arifu, I developed a series of short-form learning videos for Africa Talent Company, supporting employability and entrepreneurship programmes delivered through BrighterMonday and Jobberman.

The project addressed the need to improve access to practical employability and entrepreneurship skills for young people across Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria, and Uganda. Many learners face barriers such as limited access to affordable training, uneven internet connectivity, and a lack of practical, job-ready learning resources.

The challenge was to rapidly design and produce a series of short, mobile-first learning videos that translate complex skills into simple, engaging, and actionable learning experiences. These videos also needed to remain instructionally sound, visually consistent, and optimised for low-bandwidth environments.

๐Ÿงพ Learning Design and Script Development

I began by reviewing the learning objectives and identifying the key messages learners needed to understand and apply. Given the short video format, the focus was on distilling complex concepts into clear, actionable learning points.

To accelerate development, I used ChatGPT to generate initial script drafts based on the learning objectives. I then reviewed, refined, and contextualised each script to ensure the content was accurate, culturally relevant, and appropriate for learners across multiple African markets.

๐ŸŽฌ Multimedia Asset Creation

Once scripts were approved by the Chief Learning Officer, I created the assets required for production.

I generated consistent voiceovers using ElevenLabs to ensure clear and accessible narration across all videos.

Visual scenes and supporting video assets like avatars were produced using AI video production tools Kling AI and Heygen, enabling rapid creation of custom visuals that aligned with the learning content.

๐ŸŽฌ Video Development & Editing

Once the scripts were finalized, I assembled the final videos in Canva using a standardised production template. This ensured consistency across the programme while streamlining the production process.

Each video combined:

  • Voiceover narration.
  • AI-generated visuals.
  • On-screen text.
  • Motion graphics.
  • Wrap-up messages.

The template maintained a consistent visual identity through standardised colours, typography, layouts, and transitions.

๐Ÿ” Quality Assurance

Before publication, each video underwent a review process to ensure:

  • alignment with learning objectives
  • accuracy of content
  • visual and audio quality
  • consistency across the series
  • mobile-friendly viewing experience.
